About the client
The client is a Swedish company that sells insulated drinkware direct to consumers. The product range includes bottles and tumblers in several finishes.
“TwinCore created a good e-shop in reasonable terms. Recommend them”
Project Goal
The client needed a branded ecommerce store for selling insulated bottles and tumblers in Sweden, with tax and shipping handled correctly, a one-page checkout, and a customer account for tracking and reordering. Two requirements were non-negotiable: a fully custom design and Klarna payment integration. The store also had to run on a platform the brand could own and grow, not a hosted platform with per-sale fees.
Solution
TwinCore built the store from scratch on nopCommerce 4.1, an open-source ecommerce platform built on ASP.NET Core and C#. This allowed the catalog, checkout, and account flow to match how the brand sold its products.
- Catalog and collections — products organized into Insulated Bottles and Insulated Tumblers, each carrying size and finish variants with their own gallery.
- Product detail module — image gallery, stock status, wishlist option, and tabs for product description and care instructions.
- Search with quick cart — a results page plus a mini-cart dropdown so a shopper can add and review items without leaving the page.
- Custom one-page checkout — this was the main custom part of the project. nopCommerce 4.1 came with a multi-step checkout by default, so TwinCore rebuilt the flow as a single-page checkout. One screen covers billing and delivery (with a "same as billing" toggle), coupon codes, a live order summary, and Klarna or card payment. The 25% VAT line appeared in both the checkout summary and the stored order.
- Customer account — Orders, Wishlist, Address book (billing + delivery), and Change password.
- Order history — a per-order record showing line items, quantities, payment method (Klarna), carrier (DHL), VAT breakdown, and both addresses.
Tradeoff: custom nopCommerce vs hosted ecommerce platform
TwinCore built on self-hosted nopCommerce instead of a Shopify-style hosted platform.
This cost more upfront, but it gave the brand ownership of the store code, theme, and customer data. The tradeoff made sense because tax handling, checkout control, and data ownership mattered more than speed to launch.
Technologies used
Why TwinCore for a custom nopCommerce store
The client considered a Shopify-style hosted platform, a stock nopCommerce theme, and a custom nopCommerce build. A hosted platform would have been faster to start, but it would have limited control over tax display, checkout behavior, and product structure. A stock theme would have saved design time, but it would have made the store look like a generic nopCommerce site.
Three reasons the client chose TwinCore:
- nopCommerce experience: TwinCore builds ecommerce stores on nopCommerce, from small shops to larger ecommerce platforms, so the team knew the platform end to end.
- Swedish VAT and flat-rate shipping were built into the checkout flow.
- The project had a small delivery team, backed by TwinCore's wider ecommerce and .NET experience.
